Why

Each subject’s unique character speaks across time and place in the best portraits. We supply our vision, technical skills, and a relaxed atmosphere to create portraits that are personal, timeless and artistic. Before, during and after the portrait session, we allow time to educate, to listen and for our subjects to feel at ease and let their spirits shine through. The result of this unhurried process? Portraits you’ll love. Always.

“Every photograph contains energy. Carry and display photos taken in moments of happiness, love and receptivity.” -- from Seven Secrets of a Joyful Life. Wayne Dyer ’s Feel Good Guide, by Glenn Paskin, Family Circle Magazine, June 2005
How

We normally begin with a complementary studio consultation to explain options and to learn what is meaningful to you. We discuss details, such as location and clothing, and it’s a nice way to break the ice before the portrait session, too.

We will also recommend the appropriate study session. Our portrait sessions are called “studies” because we allow generous time and no set amount of shots. We guide you through various poses, and watch for what becomes you naturally – it is actually like a magazine shoot, minus the stress.

“Like chess, or writing, it is a matter of choosing from among given possibilities, but in the case of photography the number of possibilities is not finite but infinite.” – John Szarkowski
Where

Portraits take place in our studio, your home or at a scenic location. Our studio includes a natural daylight room, a nostalgic front porch and garden setting, as well as a studio with strobe-lights.

A fun alternative is to spend a day with your family creating images at a beach or a lake, in the mountains or a favorite city or town for unique portraits that will take you back to a special place and time whenever you see them.

“. . . . you can only see what you are ready to see – what mirrors your mind at that particular time.” – George Tice
When

About 10 to 14 days after the study session, we’ll have edited your session for the best images and will then contact you to set up a time for the video presentation for ordering your portrait prints.

Printing is just as important as the portrait session in creating a Fine Art Portrait. Each portrait is custom-printed on archival paper so that it will last for generations. Normally, the turnaround time for a print order is 6 to 8 weeks. If you need a portrait for a special occasion, please allow for this time; or let us know when you contact us, we will try to turn it around sooner if we can.

“Life is short. A flick. A flutter. A click of the shutter.”
-- from James D. Houston’s The Last Paradise: A Novel (1998)
